One Direction Penshoppe EDSA billboard
There are two different temperatures in the Philippines: hot and not as hot but still hot. Wearing suits in a tropical country is impractical, but there are many Filipinos who prefer suits to the local barongs. The weather in the Philippines is appropriate for tanktops, but there are people who insist on wearing hoodies lookin' at you Sanch. Pop culture, celebrities, and transnational corporations promote this style of fashion and people around the world admire it. Transnational fashion corporations promote their brand with celebrities, people buy clothes to dress like their favorite celebrities, fashion companies give the people what they want. It is a vicious cycle that is accepted around the world. I used Penshoppe in my example which started out as a local Filipino brand, which is now a transnational corporation. This transnational corporation is spreading consumerism with foreign celebrities and they encourage filipinos to accept their culture.
I am a part of the cycle even though I don't dress very well , but the majority of my clothes are from international brands. It is difficult to choose between local and popular cultures.
These little things are actually big things...
Alberto, so many points to make:
ReplyDelete1. Is that an albatross on your background?
2. Who is Snatch?
3. A company called "Golden ABC Inc." owns Penshoppe.
4. What brands do you wear and why?
5. Thanks for the great youtube music channel! Where did that come from?
Hey Mr.Barnes
Delete1. I think its in the Albatross family
2. Do you mean "Sanch"? Its my shortcut for Sancho who wears hoodies no matter how hot it os outside.
3. I just checked them out now and I see that they also own Oxygen which brought Rob Kardashian and Kylie Jenner to the Philippines last year.
4. I buy my clothes at Nike and Vans. The main reason is for the way the clothes look, but the brand name plays a big part as well.
5. I meamt to post a link to a 1D video, but i guess Majestic works too.
